Misamis University to Participate in the International Summer School on Sustainable Tourism in Bangkok
Misamis University is set to participate in the International Summer School in Search of Sustainable Tourism at Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand, organized by its Faculty of Social Sciences, from July 21 to August 1, 2025.
This year, the program will focus on tourism, a highly relevant topic as Thailand remains one of the world’s top tourist destinations. With the theme centered on sustainability, the program aims to explore how tourism, often criticized for its unsustainable practices, can be made into a more sustainable and inclusive sector.
The summer school is an international program organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences of Kasetsart University (with "faculty" equivalent to a college in the Philippines), specifically designed for international students from around the world.
Kasetsart University has long been an active partner of Misamis University. As part of this partnership, Kasetsart University has allocated two scholarship slots exclusively for Misamis University. Upon the recommendation of the Deans of the University’s College of Arts and Sciences and College of Education, the University will send two qualified students: Ricah Ellah Jayne B. Tautho, a fourth-year Bachelor of Arts in Political Science student, and Nice Paragat, a fourth-year Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English. Their participation will give them the opportunity to engage not only with Thai students but also with 15 other international students from various countries.
They will stay at Kasetsart University for the entire duration of the program. Ricah Ellah will explore sustainable tourism policies, government approaches, and best practices in Thailand, while Nice will focus on effective tourism communication, both aligned with their respective academic disciplines. The program also includes immersion trips to some of Bangkok’s most notable tourism destinations that provide practical learning experiences in tourism sustainability.
As a whole, this international experience will allow them to engage deeply with Thai culture and interact with students from diverse backgrounds. Ultimately, their participation will broaden their global perspectives, deepen intercultural understanding, and support the holistic development that Misamis University aims to provide, contributing significantly to both their personal and professional growth.
