Misamis University Strengthens Support for Student Mental Health Programs
Misamis University (MU), through its Guidance and Testing Office, provides comprehensive and accessible mental health support services for all students. The university implements a wide range of programs including seminars, orientations, peer-facilitator workshops, and counseling services designed to promote students’ mental well-being, emotional resilience, and overall personal growth.
1. Mental Health Seminars and Development Programs
MU regularly conducts university-wide seminars focusing on mental health awareness, emotional management, human relations, confidence building, academic adjustment, and career readiness. During the Second Semester of School Year 2024–2025, specialized mental health seminars were conducted across all colleges.

All activities were rated “Excellent”, demonstrating their effectiveness in supporting students’ mental well-being and personal development.
2. Orientation Programs and Peer Facilitator Workshops
In August 2024, MU conducted extensive College and Department Orientations for all academic units from Elementary and Senior High School to all College Departments. These sessions helped students adjust to university life and understand available support systems. To further strengthen peer-led student support, the Guidance Office also hosted Peer Facilitator Workshops on November 16 and 23, 2024. These workshops equipped student leaders with skills in communication, empathy, basic counseling, and peer support.
3. Counseling Services
Misamis University provides structured counseling services as a core component of its mental health support system. Counseling enables students to discuss academic, emotional, personal, or social concerns in a safe and confidential environment.
Key features include:
- A total of 390 students availed counseling services during the period
- Counseling is available both online and in-person.
- Students are referred by faculty members, deans, other offices, or parents.
- Sessions focus on problem-solving, emotional support, adjustment concerns, and decision-making guidance.
Counseling helps students clarify their thoughts, manage stress, understand their personal situations, and develop meaningful solutions to their concerns.
4. Holistic Support for Student Well-Being
Overall, MU ensures that students across all year levels—College and Senior High School—receive continuous guidance and support. Through seminars, orientations, peer programs, and counseling, the university fosters:
