Misamis University (MU), through its National Service Training Program (NSTP), planted 600 Philippine endemic Narra (Pterocarpus indicus) seedlings at the College of Agriculture and Forestry's Experimental Site in Capucao Farm, Ozamiz City, during a series of tree-growing activities held on March 4, 11, 20, and 25, 2026. Spearheaded by Dr. Virgilio H. Onganiza, NSTP Director, the initiative brought together NSTP students, NSTP coordinators, and second-year BS Agriculture students to promote environmental conservation and sustainable development. Before planting began, Dr. Oliver S. Tapil, OIC Dean of the College of Agriculture and Forestry, conducted a briefing on proper planting techniques to ensure the healthy growth of the Narra seedlings.

The Philippine Narra (Pterocarpus indicus), the national tree of the Philippines and a native species, plays a significant role in forest restoration, biodiversity conservation, and climate change mitigation. Planting native tree species helps restore degraded landscapes while supporting local ecosystems and wildlife.

MU extends its sincere appreciation to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO), under the leadership of OIC CENR Officer Elizabeth B. Gran, for generously providing the Narra seedlings used in the activity. The University also thanks the Capucao Farm personnel, led by Ryan Ote, for their assistance in site preparation and during the actual planting activities. Special recognition is likewise extended to Dr. Karen Belina F. De Leon for allowing the students to participate in the tree-growing activity and for providing transportation to and from the MU campus and Capucao Farm.

The tree-growing activity encouraged MU NSTP student volunteers to become active environmental stewards by helping restore and protect the country's natural resources. Through the activity, students put volunteerism, environmental responsibility, and community engagement into action while supporting Misamis University's commitment to sustainability and the protection of the nation's natural heritage for future generations.
