Strengthening Sustainability: Misamis University’s Key Environmental Initiatives in 2025
1. Immersion, Outreach, Tree Growing Mark 2025 MOVE Youth Summit at MMRNP
Misamis University organized the 2025 MOVE Youth Summit at the Mt. Malindang Range Natural Park, engaging students through community immersion, educational sessions, and a tree-planting activity. The event strengthened youth participation in environmental protection and highlighted MU’s ongoing collaboration with local communities and partners in conserving MMRNP by planting 50 species of Pterocarpus indicus at the Arboretum of MMRNP in Barangay Nueva Vista, Don Victorinao, Misamis Occidental.
2. 200 Seedlings Planted in Tudela for Philippine Arbor Day 2025
In celebration of Philippine Arbor Day, Misamis University planted 200 seedlings—100 Narra and 100 Bamboo—in Barangay Sebac, Tudela, Misamis Occidental. Students, faculty, and local partners joined the activity, which aims to promote reforestation, environmental awareness, and community involvement in restoring degraded areas.
3. 3,000 Mangrove Seedlings Planted for International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem
MU participated in a major coastal restoration effort by planting 3,000 mangrove seedlings in observance of the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem. The activity was conducted with community stakeholders and forms part of the university’s long-standing commitment to protecting coastal habitats and supporting local resilience.
4. MU NSTP Grows 500 Narra Seedlings
As part of its National Service Training Program (NSTP), Misamis University successfully planted 500 Narra seedlings at Capucao Farm, Ozamiz City. This initiative supports the university’s environmental thrust while giving students hands-on experience to establish plantation using Philippine Endemic species
5. MU CARES and MOVE Lead Tree-Growing Activity with Endemic Species
Through the MU CARES program and MOVE volunteers, the university planted 50 seedlings of Syzygium rubrovenium (Polayo), an endemic tree species valued for its ecological and medicinal importance. Seedlings were provided by the Oroquieta City ENRO, reinforcing MU’s partnership with the local government in conserving native biodiversity.
6. Month of the Ocean 2025 Culminates with Mangrove Planting and Coastal Clean-up in Clarin
Misamis University concluded the 2025 Month of the Ocean celebration with a mangrove tree-planting and coastal clean-up in Clarin, Misamis Occidental. Volunteers gathered to restore coastal vegetation, reduce marine debris, and raise awareness on marine conservation and climate resilience.
7. MU Celebrates Earth Day and Forests Day 2025
MU marked Earth Day and Forests Day 2025 with activities promoting environmental education, conservation, and sustainability. Students, faculty, and community partners participated in awareness campaigns and field activities, emphasizing MU’s ongoing commitment to protecting natural ecosystems.
8. Misamis University Successfully Hosts the 4th International Conference on Biodiversity and Climate Change 2025
The Misamis University, Philippines, in collaboration with Kasetsart University (Thailand), VIT Bhopal University (India), and INTI International University (Malaysia), has successfully hosted the 4th International Conference on Biodiversity and Climate Change (IConBaCC 2025) on September 25–26, 2025, at the Hilarion T. Feliciano Activity Center, Misamis University, Ozamiz City. This year’s conference, held in a hybrid format, carried the theme “Sustainable Peace with Nature: A Global Commitment towards Net Zero.”
9. 4th IConBaCC Delegates Experience Mt. Malindang Cross-Border Tourism
During the 4th International Conference on Biodiversity and Climate Change (IConBaCC), delegates, speakers, and organizers joined a cross-border eco-tourism tour of Mt. Malindang. The activity showcased the region's natural heritage while complementing conference discussions on biodiversity conservation and climate action.
10. Planting Hope, Growing Change
Last February 22, 2025, the MU NSTPC226RT students took part in a meaningful tree-planting activity in Digu-an, Ozamiz City, where they planted 60 seedlings of Artocarpus Camansi (Camansi Tree). This initiative is a small step towards environmental sustainability and community involvement.
