Misamis University Basic Education Department: Celebrating Talent, Sportsmanship, and Holistic Development
Misamis University (MU) successfully held its Basic Education Inter-High School Musical Competition on November 12, 2025, at the MU Covered Court as part of the celebration of the university’s 96th Foundation Anniversary with the theme MU@96: Igniting Minds, Empowering Futures, Shaping a Sustainable World.
Nine participating schools showcased their talents in Solo Singing, Duet Singing, Pop Dance, and Folk Dance, including Holy Child High School, Jose Lim Ho National High School, Ozamiz City National High School, Pulot National High School, Labo National High School, Tudela National Comprehensive High School, Ozamiz City School of Arts and Trades, Capucao Integrated School, and San Antonio National High School.
Aligned with MU’s commitment to sustainability, the event advanced the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG?3: Good Health and Well-Being, by promoting artistic and physical expression that enhances confidence, creativity, and emotional wellbeing. The competition served as a celebration of youth talent, culture, and unity, reinforcing MU’s mission of shaping empowered, creative, and sustainability-driven learners who will help build a brighter and more sustainable future.
On August 14–15, 2025, the MU Basic Education Department (MU-BED) also showcased its athletic excellence at the OCAPSA Inter-Private Sports Competition in Ozamiz City. This annual event brings private schools together to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and holistic student development. MU-BED athletes from both elementary and secondary levels competed in Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Badminton, Chess, Lawn Tennis, and Table Tennis, demonstrating skill, discipline, and determination. Guided by MU’s PVMGO (Philosophy, Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives), the University emphasizes academic excellence, leadership, and values formation while fostering inclusivity and social responsibility.
MU-BED dominated the competition, claiming championships in Men’s 5-on-5 and 3x3 Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Volleyball, Football, and multiple victories in Badminton, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, and Chess, with many athletes qualifying for the City Meet. These achievements strengthened teamwork, resilience, leadership, and school pride, while inspiring future athletes. The success reflects MU’s commitment to holistic education, community engagement, and a lasting culture of excellence in both academics and athletics, while advancing SDG?3: Good Health and Well-Being through active participation in sports
In addition, MU-BED continues to nurture young learners through its annual Summer Fun Program, held from June 18 to July 17, 2024. The program offered diverse activities such as Basketball, Swimming, Dancing, and Badminton for a minimal fee, encouraging sportsmanship, healthy living, and enjoyment. Children enrolled experienced both fun and learning, reinforcing MU’s dedication to holistic development and community service.
