Misamis University and International Youth Fellowship Conduct Mind Education Symposium
Misamis University, through the Office of Linkages and International Affairs, strengthened its partnership with the International Youth Fellowship (IYF) for a collaboration on Mind Education Symposium. The Mind Education Symposium provides opportunities for the university Psychology students to engage in learning activities that promote personal development, self awareness and well being. Through the symposium, MU and IYF seek to introduce students to approaches that help them better understand their thoughts, emotions, attitudes and responses to different situations.
It aimed to respond positively to challenges, build healthier relationships and practice responsible decision making. It also sought to provide students with perspectives that could support their personal growth and contribute to their overall well being.
The Mind Education Symposium was held on August 12, 2026, at the Function Hall of Misamis University. The activity brought together approximately 90 BS Psychology students, 13 selected student leaders and University Guidance Coaches, providing a diverse group of participants who could apply the lessons from the session in both their academic and personal settings.
The symposium featured Mr. Jin Eun Kim of the International Youth Fellowship Davao as the resource person. He discussed the principles of Mind Education, particularly the importance of understanding one's thoughts, emotions and attitudes. He also emphasized the value of developing self awareness and positive ways of responding to challenges. Mrs. Maria Kristina C. Vicente, Program Head of the BS Psychology Program, facilitated the open forum following the lecture.
Participants actively engaged with the resource person during the discussion and open forum. Students were given opportunities to ask questions, share their reflections and discuss situations connected to the topics presented. The interaction allowed participants to relate the concepts of Mind Education to their experiences as students and to reflect on how their thoughts, emotions and responses may influence their relationships, decisions and approach to challenges.
The activity provided a space for meaningful exchange between the students, university personnel and the resource person. Through the discussion, participants were encouraged to reflect on personal development and the importance of developing a healthier and more responsible mindset.
The Mind Education Symposium contributes to SDG 3: Good Health and Well Being by promoting awareness and practices that support students' mental and emotional well being. By encouraging self awareness, emotional understanding, resilience and healthier responses to challenges, the activity supports the development of students'capacity to care for their overall well being.
The initiative also contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education by providing learning opportunities beyond the classroom that support the holistic development of students. Through its partnership with IYF, the activity further demonstrates MU's commitment to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by working with an external organization to provide students with additional learning and development opportunities.
