Sharing of Visiting Professors Among HEIs in Region 10: A Strategic Initiative
Misamis University, under the leadership of its Linkage Officer, Dr. Lloyd B. Ranises, has put forward a groundbreaking initiative to foster collaboration among higher education institutions (HEIs) in Region 10. The proposal, which centers on the sharing of visiting professors from abroad, was recently presented to key representatives of the region’s HEIs, including their Internationalization Directors. This innovative approach offers a cost-effective solution to bringing international faculty into local universities while enhancing the quality of education and promoting global exchange.
At the heart of the proposal is the shared utilization of visiting professors among participating institutions. This model allows universities to benefit from international expertise while reducing the financial impact typically associated with international recruitment and faculty salaries. By pooling resources, the region's universities can maximize access to global education without compromising on quality. The proposal has garnered enthusiastic support from academic leaders across Region 10, who recognize the potential for substantial academic and cultural enrichment.
Several key figures have expressed their interest to this collaborative initiative. Among them are Dr. Joey Genevieve T. Martinez, Vice Chancellor for International Affairs at Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), who was represented by James Laranjo during the discussions; Dr. Raquelyn Jumawan-Dadang, Director of the Office of International Relations at Central Mindanao University; Dr. Rizza R. Consad, Director for International Affairs and Linkages Unit at Bukidnon State University, represented by Mr. Jiomer Pacquiao; and Henry J. Abellanoza, Director of the Liceo Internationalization Office at Liceo de Cagayan University. These leaders have signed a formal agreement to support the shared Visiting Professors Program, underscoring their dedication to advancing internationalization within the region.
The agreement represents a unified vision for strengthening global collaboration among HEIs in Region 10. The initiative is expected to enrich the academic experiences of both faculty and students, facilitating cultural exchange and academic growth without the challenges of traditional international hiring practices.
Looking ahead, this program is poised to become a model for other regions aspiring to internationalize their academic offerings. By fostering cooperation and resource sharing, Region 10’s HEIs are positioning themselves as pioneers in innovative, sustainable, and globally-oriented education. This initiative reflects the commitment of local universities to providing world-class education while remaining efficient and forward- thinking in their internationalization strategies.
