Misamis University Strengthens Partnership with VIT Bhopal University through Active Engagement in International AI Conference

Misamis University has continuously strengthened its active partnership with VIT Bhopal University in Madhya Pradesh, India, by participating in the 1st International Conference on Machine Intelligence, Tools, and Applications (ICMITA) held on April 12-13, 2024. This collaborative engagement highlights the university's commitment to fostering international academic relations and advancing research in emerging technologies.

The ICMITA aimed to bring together leading academics, scientists, industry experts, researchers, and scholars to exchange knowledge about machine intelligence tools and their applications. The conference provided an interdisciplinary forum for exploring innovations in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, and their technological impact across various sectors.

Misamis University's participation in this international event demonstrated its faculty members' active involvement in AI research. MU researchers delivered presentations that explored the implications of AI in diverse fields such as automation in engineering, classroom teaching and learning, and healthcare services. This wide-ranging contribution demonstrated the university's dedication to addressing real-world challenges through academic inquiry.

The hybrid conference format allowed Misamis University to participate online, with both students and faculty members from the Graduate School presenting their research. The presenters and their works included:

  • Dr. Cynthia Superable: “Online Teaching in the Lens of Secondary School Teachers”
  • Engr. Murphy Saumat:: “Machine Learning-Based Analysis and Forecasting of Electricity Demand in Misamis Occidental, Philippines”
  • Louie Jay Adlao and Dr. Jesus Ocapan Jr.: “Usefulness of High-Fidelity Simulation to Nursing Students’ Critical Thinking Disposition and Clinical Performances”
  • Susmita Sen Tenchavez and Dr. Merasol Duyag: “Telemedicine for Healthcare Access: A Case Study”
  • Richelle Mainar and Dr. Haydee Villanueva: “Learning Environment and Teachers’ Technology Integration in Teaching in Relation to Learners’ Academic Engagement”

  • Danielle Gene Geonzon and Elmie Allanic: “Students’ Use of Social Media and Interpersonal Interaction Behavior in Relation to their Academic Performance”
  • Marian Buenafe: “Profile of Grade 10 ChatGPT Users, Motivation, and Extent of ChatGPT Use”

Additionally, MU also participated by serving as Session Chairs in the conference. Dr. Roseclaremath Caroro, Dr. Markdy Orong, Dr. Genelyn Baluyos, and Dr. Analyn Clarin served as Session Chairs, while Dr. Lloyd Ranises oversaw the session as Session Coordinator.

The rigorous scrutiny and meticulous feedback provided by the panel from VIT Bhopal enriched the participants' research, further enhancing their academic contributions. Notably, Engr. Murphy Saumat's paper titled 'Machine Learning-Based Analysis and Forecasting of Electricity Demand in Misamis Occidental, Philippines' was selected for publication by Springer, one of the world’s largest publishers of academic books, journals, and research content across various disciplines, including science, technology, medicine, and social sciences.

This participation enabled Misamis University’s faculty and students to gain up-to-date knowledge in AI research, reinforcing the importance of international academic collaborations. The active partnership with VIT Bhopal continues to grow, enhancing the quality of education and research in both institutions. Such initiatives not only bolster the universities' instructional capabilities but also benefit the communities they serve in the Philippines and India.
