University Library

The Misamis University Library endeavors to provide and maintain a strong library collection capable of supporting the instructional research and other bibliographical needs of both students and faculty. The Library system consists of Graduate, Undergraduate, Secondary and Elementary libraries. The present collection is not only large; its quality, depth and range are also strong in many areas like Humanities, Science and Technology. The University Library is responsible to render services to all students, faculty and staff of the University and also extend its services to outside researchers.

Vision/ Mission

The Misamis University Library System aims to be the world class academic Resource Center of Information and services to support the university objectives of providing the community with a progressive and dynamic education. It aims to provide quality Information Center with complete modern facilities of various formats that provides the knowledge and skills for a globally competitive libraries in the world.

General Objectives

Develop and maintain strong and adequate collections that support the instructional programs of the institution.

Provide adequate facilities and services efficiently and effectively.

Specific Objectives

Acquire, preserve, and develop the necessary resources for reference, research, and recreational purposes.

Provide efficient and effective facilities and services.

Organize and maintain the needed technical services of cataloging, classifying, indexing, filing and other bibliographic work.

Develop effective reference and circulation services for readers.

Encourage the maximum use of the library resources among the academic community.

Coordinate with the instructional and administrative staff in planning a dynamic development program for the Library.

Strive toward the full computerization of the whole library system.

Assess the effectives of the Library services and use for purposes of planning and development.

Rules and Regulations

  • All students must be in their proper school uniform with their ID's when they enter the Library.
  • All students are required to present a Library Borrower's Card (LBC) when borrowing books and other Library materials.
  • The Library is a place for study, research and reading. Eating, smoking and talking inside arestrictly prohibited.
  • Projects and other co-curricular requirements should not be done in the library.
  • Students bringing traveling bags and bulky materials are not allowed to enter the library. A courtesy booth is being provided for the library users to deposit bulky materials.
  • Students wearing slippers are not allowed to enter the library
  • Library services maybe available to the public, provided the researcher can present a letter of recommendation from the librarian of the school where he came from or from the head of the school where he is connected, or secure a letter of introduction from the Dean of the Graduate School. A service fee shall be paid to the Accounting Office. The receipt will be presented to the University Librarian. Researchers can avail of all library materials but this cannot be brought outside the library or brought home for research.
  • An alumnus may secure a letter of recommendation from his/her Dean/Principal noted by the Director of Alumni Affairs.

Library Offense

A student who violates any library rule may be subjected to fines and/or suspension of library privileges at the discretion of the Director of Libraries. Serious offenses that may merit suspension, exclusion or expulsion are referred to the Department of Student Affairs.

The following Offenses are considered serious:

  • Deliberate marking, mutilation or defacing of any library material in any way.
  • Unauthorized withdrawal of library materials. Such kind of withdrawal will be considered as theft.
  • Misrepresentation or use of another person's ID to gain entrance to the libraries or to borrow library materials.
  • Eating, drinking, use of cell phones and other audio equipment inside the libraries.

Privileges

All bonafide students are entitled to borrow books and other library materials subject to library rules and regulations.

Library Discipline

  • General Reference, Special Collection, handbooks, reviewers, manuals, guidebooks, Filipiniana and Periodical materials are read inside the library only.
  • Books in Reserve Section can be lent out for a limited time to students. Reserve Books are issued for only one (1) hour time within the designated reading area. Extension for an additional hour may be granted if there is no demand from other borrower/s.
  • Books from the General Section may be lent out: three (3) days for reference books. Renewal for another day is granted only if there is no waiting list. Borrowed books should be presented at the circulation counter for renewal.
  • Any person who losses or fails to return the borrowed books after the specified due date shall replace them within seven (7) days or pay the current value together with the accrued fines and a processing fee. If the book is out of printing, the cost of the photocopy plus binding cost shall be charged together with the accrued fines. Further borrowing by the student is temporarily suspended until his account is cleared.
  • Books borrowed for home use shall be returned to the Loan Desk /Record Section. Books used inside the library should be returned to its proper area.
  • Books and other library materials that are taken out should be presented to the checker for inspection. This ensure proper accounting of borrowed materials from the library.
  • Inquiries concerning the lost and found articles in the library should be made at the loan desk. The Library personnel is not responsible for losses of personal belongings inside the library.

Electronic Resource Section: Laboratory Rules and Regulations

The University Library Electronic Resource Section (ERS) laboratory facility is setup and solely intended to facilitate and support the academic computing needs of Misamis University faculty, staff and students in teaching and studying through the provisions of having up-to-date and efficient electronic resource materials.

These regulations are given to ensure access, provide safety, convenience, and security for all. All users (students, faculty, and staff) are expected to be responsible for their own behavior while using the computer system of the ERS, including the Internet, just as they are anywhere else in the university campus. Users are reminded that their actions may represent the entire university community. These include materials or sites they chose to access, language they used, ideas they expressed, and other actions which are detrimental to themselves and the school. Failure to comply with the UL-ERS rules and regulations will result in loss of user's privileges, and other actions appropriated under the MU Discipline Policy.


RULES and REGULATIONS:

  • All computers in the ERS are for academic, instructional and research purposes ONLY. Using the school's equipment/software for commercial gain is strictly prohibited and will be subjected to disciplinary actions.
  • All users are required to sign-in using their complete name, course & year, and I.D. number in the ERS Logbook
  • All users are entitled for a 60-minute daily free usage. Users may request for an extension of time allocated, provided that, no reservation was made by other users to use the computer.
  • All users are responsible for the safety of their own possessions and belongings. The Library shall not be held accountable for any items lost or stolen.
  • All foods and beverages, including bottled water are are strictly not allowed inside the ERS.
  • All cell phones/gadgets should be muted. Group meetings/discussions are not allowed.
  • All users are permitted to save files to local hard drive at their own risk. The ERS lab is not responsible if any files are lost, stolen, or deleted. Users are encouraged to back up their files by using their own USB memory sticks; If needed, users may request assistance from the library staff.
  • All users are allowed to print research materials and assignments upon payment of the required amount at the MU-Accounting office and present the official receipt (OR) to the Library Staff in-charge for the document printing.
  • All users are prohibited from installing software on any computer in the ERS lab. Inform the ERS in-charge, in case additional software is needed to complete the research / academic task.
  • In case of computer malfunctions, users MUST immediately notify the ERS in-charge. Users will be given assistance, guidance, and basic troubleshooting help with technical problems related to their assignment and academic tasks.
  • It is the responsibility of every user to ensure that the ERS equipment is not being abused, damaged, or used in a manner other than what it is intended for. All abuse will be immediately reported to the University Library Director and disciplinary actions will be imposed as appropriate.
