Misamis University Collaborations to Advance Health and Wellbeing Outcomes
Misamis University continues to strengthen its role as a leading institution in health research and community wellbeing through strategic collaborations with local, national, and global health organizations. These partnerships highlight MU’s commitment to advancing research excellence, promoting inclusive health programs, and contributing to sustainable development goals, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well?Being). By aligning its initiatives with SDG?3, MU ensures that its research, capacity?building activities, and community engagements directly support healthier lives, equitable access to healthcare, and the prevention of disease, thereby fostering resilient communities and contributing to national and global health outcomes.
National Collaboration with DOST–PCHRD
On March 12, 2025, MU officially entered into a partnership with the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST–PCHRD), an agency under the Department of Science and Technology. Through a Memorandum of Understanding, MU researchers and staff will receive training and technical support in utilizing the Health Research and Development Information Network (HERDIN), the country’s national health research repository.
- Capacity Building: DOST–PCHRD will provide training, introduce new HERDIN features, and strengthen data security measures.
- Research Visibility: MU commits to sharing its outputs with the national research network, including integration into the Science Library Integrated Management System and Google Scholar.
- Ecosystem Development: MU collaborates with the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) to design new programs and services that enhance the country’s health research landscape.
In partnership with the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD), organized the HERDIN Orientation on July 31, 2025. Held from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM via Zoom and on-campus venues, the event introduced faculty and students to the Health Research and Development Information Network (HERDIN), the Philippines’ official health research repository.
A total of 179 participants—148 students and 31 faculty members—from all 11 colleges joined via the Instructional Media Center and Function Hall.
This partnership significantly increases the visibility of MU’s research, ensuring that its outputs reach both local and international scholars, thereby amplifying the impact of its contributions to health and wellbeing.
Regional Collaboration through NorMinCoHRD
As a key member of the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research and Development (NorMinCoHRD), MU actively collaborates with regional institutions to conduct health research responsive to community needs.
► Orientation on HERDIN (July 31, 2025): MU hosted an orientation to raise awareness and build capacity among students and faculty from multiple colleges, aligning research engagement with national development goals
► 8th Regional Health Research Conference (October 2025): MU co-organized this landmark event in Ozamiz City, bringing together researchers, educators, and professionals across Northern Mindanao. The conference emphasized innovation, impact, and inclusive growth, with plenary sessions such as Dr. Mylene Uy’s talk on harnessing Mindanao’s biodiversity for sustainable health innovations.
Through these initiatives, MU fosters regional collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation that directly benefit communities in Northern Mindanao.
► Local and Sectoral Partnerships
MU also engages in targeted collaborations with local health institutions to address pressing community health issues.
► Oral Health Advocacy: On February 26–27, 2025, MU’s College of Dentistry participated in the Consultative Meeting with Northern Mindanao Public Health Dentists and interagency stakeholders organized by the Department of Health–Center for Health Development. The meeting formalized commitments for oral health promotion and disease prevention, culminating in the signing of the Inter-Agency Oral Health Wall of Commitment by MU’s Dean, Dr. Marlo Engelberto Lasutaz. This unified pledge symbolizes collective dedication to protecting communities from preventable oral diseases across all life stages.
College Engagements: MU’s College of Nursing, Midwifery, and Radiologic Technology, alongside other colleges, actively partners in health research and extension programs, ensuring that academic expertise translates into practical community health outcomes.
Through its collaborations with national agencies like DOST–PCHRD, regional networks such as NorMinCoHRD, and local interagency initiatives led by the Department of Health, Misamis University demonstrates a holistic approach to improving health and wellbeing. By explicitly aligning its efforts with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well?Being), MU ensures that its research, programs, and partnerships not only elevate institutional visibility but also deliver tangible health benefits to communities. These collaborations strengthen the university’s role as a catalyst for innovation, inclusivity, and resilience in the pursuit of healthier lives for all.
