Misamis University Collaborates with Universitas Riau Kepulauan, Indonesia, for Free Online Bahasa Indonesia Course 2026
Misamis University (MU) continues to strengthen its internationalization initiatives through a collaborative partnership with Universitas Riau Kepulauan, Indonesia, in delivering the Free Online Bahasa Indonesia Course 2026. This program, designed as an Indonesian Language Program for Foreign Speakers, consists of ten sessions scheduled on April 21, 23, 28, 30, and May 5, 7, 12, 19, 21, and 26, 2026.
The course aims to equip students with foundational competencies in the Indonesian language while fostering intercultural understanding. It covers four key learning domains: attitudinal, knowledge, language skills, and cultural competence.
Participants are expected to develop a positive attitude toward the Indonesian language and culture, as well as an appreciation for cultural diversity in cross-national communication. The program also introduces essential vocabulary, including greetings, self-introduction, family, numbers, time, and daily activities. Students are guided in understanding basic sentence structures and recognizing expressions used in both formal and informal contexts.
In terms of language skills, the course enhances listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities. Students learn to understand simple instructions and short conversations, introduce themselves, engage in basic dialogues, read short texts such as schedules and announcements, and write simple sentences related to personal identity. Additionally, the program integrates cultural competence by highlighting Indonesian politeness norms and elements of Riau Malay culture, enabling learners to use appropriate expressions in basic interactions.
The online Bahasa Indonesia classes are facilitated by esteemed faculty members from Universitas Riau Kepulauan, namely Dr. Dewi Yana, S.Pd., M.Pd.; Dr. Oktavianti, S.E., M.Si; Erwin Ashari, S.Pd., M.Hum; Shalehoddin, S.Pd., M.Pd; and Sulastri Manurung, S.S., M.Pd.
The program is primarily intended for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) major in English and Filipino, as well as AB English Language students of Misamis University. These students particularly benefit from the course as their curricula include Linguistics subjects. Exposure to Bahasa Indonesia allows them to explore language structures, phonology, syntax, and semantics in a comparative context, thereby deepening their understanding of how languages function across cultures. This aligns with their academic preparation in language teaching, analysis, and communication.
The opening program of the Bahasa Online Class was graced by the President of Misamis University, Dr. Karen Belina F. De Leon, who delivered a welcome message. She was joined by Prof. Dr. Sri Langgeng Ratnasari, Rector of Universitas Riau Kepulauan.

Ranises, Director of Linkages and International Affairs; Dr. Analyn Clarin, Director for Instruction and Evaluation; Dr. Haydee D.
