Showcasing MU’s Community Service Excellence at UICCS 2025
With pride and dedication as a keynote speaker, EnP. Grace V. Villanueva (Director, Misamis University Community Extension Program) showcased the extension arm of Misamis University at the Unrika International Conference Community Services (UICCS) in a hybrid setup on October 28, 2025, at the University of Riau Kepulaunan (UNRIKA), Batam City, Indonesia.
With the theme “International Collaboration and Empowering Community for Shaping the Future Ecology Sustainability”, the conference was attended by students, researchers, and extension advocate participants globally. EnP. Villanueva provided an overview of MUCEP, highlighting its tripartite mission of instruction, research, and extension. MU’s strengthened partnerships and linkages had an impact on various ecosystems, including ridges, rivers, and reefs. The institution’s outreach programs encompass health, engineering and technology, education, and environment.
The presentation features MU’s DOST-PCAARRD-funded project on the “Valuation of Forest Ecosystem Services of Mt. Malindang Range Natural Park, Misamis Occidental, Philippines”, emphasizing its research outputs for policy and practice. Through research, priority on the bioresources of Mt. Malindang Range Natural Park has been identified for conservation and an access benefit-sharing scheme. Another study conducted by MU focuses on the Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES), a mechanism designed to generate fiscal resources from households in Misamis Occidental that are connected to water utilities, which will then be used for the conservation and management of the Mt. Malindang Range Natural Park.
Misamis University has been a constant advocate for environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and ecological sustainability in giving technical assistance for MMRNP Protected Area Management Plans (PAMP); preparing coffee table books for the protected areas in Malindang and Baliangao; designing Communication Education Public Awareness (CEPA) programs and materials; participating in crafting resolutions and ordinances; and generating internal university resources and external funding or grants for environmental sustainability.
A Memorandum of Understanding between Misamis University and the University of Riau Kepulaunan was forged last October 28, 2025. One of the ways to strengthen the partnership is through opportunities where parties can share knowledge and inspire to make a difference in the community.
