Misamis University Agriculture Students Earn Provincial Awards in Young Farmers Challenge
Misamis University continues to demonstrate the value of quality education in developing future agricultural entrepreneurs, as three students from the College of Agriculture and Forestry earned Start-up Provincial Awards in the Department of Agriculture’s Young Farmers Challenge (YFC) program.
The achievements, spanning the 2024 and 2026 competitions, highlight how academic knowledge, practical training, and faculty mentorship can help students transform innovative ideas into viable agricultural enterprises.
In 2025, third-year student Joshua U. Magtagad received a Start-up Provincial Award under the 2024 YFC Program for his venture, Magtagad’s Sustainable Swine Farming. He joined 28 individual provincial winners recognized during the regional awarding ceremony on May 29, 2025, at TIEZA Gardens of Malasag in Cagayan de Oro City.
In September 2026, fourth-year student Jhaine Elaica S. Agan earned the same recognition under YFC Season 6 for her venture, Eggcellence Farm. The students’ achievements were made possible in part through the mentorship of Mr. Gerald G. Aguilar and Ms. Ma. Shairah P. Tubigon. Their guidance helped the student entrepreneurs develop their business models, operational plans, and financial projections, which were evaluated by the Department of Agriculture’s Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division based on innovation, viability, social responsibility, and entrepreneurial capability.
Beyond recognition and financial support, these accomplishments reflect Misamis University’s commitment to providing quality education that connects classroom learning with real-world applications. By equipping students with technical knowledge, entrepreneurial skills, and opportunities to develop practical solutions, the University prepares graduates to contribute to agricultural innovation, enterprise development, and community growth.
Through the College of Agriculture and Forestry, Misamis University continues to nurture capable and innovative graduates who can turn their knowledge into meaningful ventures and help advance the future of Philippine agriculture.
