Misamis University Strengthens Internationalization Efforts through European Higher Education Fair 2024
Misamis University, represented by Dr. Lloyd Ranises, has taken another significant step in advancing its internationalization agenda. Dr. Ranises participated in the European Higher Education Fair (EHEF), organized by the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines, on November 22–23, 2024. The event served as a gateway to fostering potential partnerships with universities, industries, and organizations from across Europe.
The EHEF was led by the European Union delegation, headed by Ambassador Massimo Santoro of Italy, alongside ambassadors, attachés, and representatives from European Embassies, higher education institutions (HEIs) and organizations spanning countries such as Spain, Germany, Finland, Austria, Hungary, Ireland, Poland, France, Belgium, Sweden, Italy, and Denmark.
Among the participating institutions were prominent universities and organizations, including:
Spain: Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidad Politécnica de Catalunya, UCAM Catholic University of Murcia, IE University, Universidad de Navarra, Universidad Pompeu Fabra de Barcelona
Germany: IU International University of Applied Sciences, Goethe-Institut Philippines, Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD)
Finland: Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Aalto University, Tampere University
Ireland: Dundalk Institute of Technology, University of Galway, South East Technological University
Italy: Università Degli Studi di Padova, Politecnico di Milano, Uni-Italia

During the event, Dr. Ranises actively pursued potential collaborations aligned with Misamis University’s internationalization and global ranking strategies. Key areas of focus included:
1. Research Collaborations and Co-Publications: Initiatives to strengthen research outputs
by collaborating with European academics.
2. Teaching Engagements with European Professors: Facilitating faculty exchanges and
guest lectures to enhance academic programs.
3. Student Mobility and Internship Programs: Establishing pathways for student internships
in paramedical fields, engineering, and IT.
4. European Language Training Programs: Offering language training to prepare students
for global opportunities.
5. Employment Opportunities for Graduates: Partnering with European industries to provide
career prospects for graduates in key fields.
Dr. Ranises also engaged with the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), one of Germany’s largest funding organizations for international academic cooperation. Gerard Aguilar, a recipient of a German scholarship, facilitated this meeting. Additionally, initial discussions explored potential internship, language training partnerships, and scholarships with institutions in Spain, Ireland, and Hungary.
Also, Dr. Ranises had the opportunity to follow up on a potential partnership with the Austrian APSA Company through discussions with Ms. Teresa Francisco, Country Manager for International Recruitment and Migration at the Austrian Embassy. Ms. Francisco was an honored resource speaker at Misamis University’s October 8 forum held in Ozamiz City.
The EHEF emphasized the importance of student mobility, requiring further deliberation to ensure effective implementation in line with Misamis University's goals. With these newly established connections and initiatives, the university is poised to expand its international presence and enhance its global competencies.
Misamis University remains committed to strengthening its internationalization efforts. These collaborations will play a vital role in propelling the university toward greater global engagement and success.
