Environmental Concern Recognition for Misamis University
Misamis University has received its fourth (4th) consecutive recognition granted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Environmental Management Bureau- 10 for its valuable contribution for the protection and enhancement of the water quality of Carangan Creek in Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental.
The recognition was awarded during the Adopt-an-Estero Partner’s Forum held at De Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City last October 11, 2016. Misamis University was represented by Dr. Virgilio H. Onganiza, Director of National Service Training Program, along with Ms. Grace V. Villanueva, Director of Misamis University Community Extension Program (MUCEP) and Ms. Hanzen D. Tomatao, MUCEP Staff, who received the recognition for Misamis University Community Extension Program (MUCEP) and National Service Training Program (NSTP)- the main implementers of the program.
The Carangan Creek has been adopted by Misamis University since 2011 through Ecological Strengthening through Environmental Rehabilitation and Orientation (ESTERO) program. With the full support of the administration of Misamis University, Misamis Occidental DENR-EMB LGU of Ozamiz City, other donor and partner agencies, with residents along Carangan Creek , ESTERO program implemented a comprehensive set of activities for Carangan Creek.
Truly, Misamis University is not only a home of quality education but is also where concern and care for the environment is instilled and practiced by the whole university community….the home of environmental enthusiasts.
