Forging New Alliances: Misamis University Joins U.S.-Philippines Higher Education Luncheon Meeting
On October 10, 2024, Dr. Lloyd Ranises, the Linkage and Networking Officer representing Misamis University, Ozamiz City, participated in a luncheon meeting organized by the U.S. Embassy at the Sheraton Manila Bay. The event gathered Directors of Global Partnerships from 23 U.S. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Internationalization Directors from various Philippine HEIs to discuss potential collaborations and partnerships aimed at strengthening academic ties between the two countries.
The luncheon provided a unique platform for networking, with participants engaging in discussions in a cocktail-style format. The venue format facilitated easy interaction, allowing representatives to connect, share ideas, and explore opportunities for collaboration.
Dr. Ranises met with representatives from U.S. HEIs whose programs align with those of Misamis University, particularly in fields such as Medical Technology, Dentistry, Nursing, Engineering, Computer Studies, Business, and Agriculture. The discussions focused on possibilities for online collaborations and the potential for program articulation agreements—structured academic pathways allowing students to study at both Misamis University and a partner U.S. institution.
Two program models emerged as promising options:
➤ 2+2 Program: Students complete two years at Misamis University before transferring to the U.S. partner institution for the remaining two years.
➤ 3+1 Program: Students spend three years at Misamis University, followed by a final year at the U.S. partner institution.
These models offer students the unique opportunity to earn degrees from both institutions through dual graduation ceremonies—one in the U.S. and one at Misamis University—furthering their global academic experience.
Dr. Ranises identified seven U.S. HEIs with programs that align closely with those offered by Misamis University. These institutions include Virginia Commonwealth University, Old Dominion University, University of Rochester, University of Kentucky, State University of New York, North Dakota State University, and York College of Pennsylvania. The potential partnerships with these universities promise exciting academic opportunities for Misamis University students.
The luncheon meeting highlighted the commitment of both U.S. and Philippine HEIs to enhancing global education. It marked the beginning of new and promising partnerships, opening doors for students to experience world-class education and build their future through international collaboration.
