Dr. Orlando De Leon and Thai Guest Visit Labo River for Site Assessment
Last February 18, 2026, Dr. Orlando D. De Leon, Misamis University’s Vice President for Administration and Director for Public Relations and Marketing, led a trekking activity at Sitio Kalinuban, Hoyohoy in Tangub City, the headwaters of the Labo River. A visitor from Thailand, Dr. Nitrut Shingkapaybulaya, joined the activity. Members of the Misamis Occidental Volunteers for Environment – MU Chapter assisted during the trek.
The walk revisited the Save Labo River Program, launched in 2004 as the pioneer banner program of Misamis University during the presidency of the late Dr. Nestor M. Feliciano. The program promotes community engagement and watershed rehabilitation to protect the Labo River, which supports the economy and agricultural activities of Ozamiz City, Tangub City, and the Municipality of Clarin in Misamis Occidental.
As an environmental advocate, Dr. De Leon emphasized the importance of strengthening stewardship of natural resources and promoting ecotourism activities. The activity also aimed to showcase the area’s rich natural environment, promote knowledge exchange with international partners, strengthen linkages, and explore potential collaboration in environmental conservation and research.
