Misamis University Boosts Research Excellence Through 2-Day Seminar Workshop
Misamis University continues to strengthen its research culture after successfully conducting a two-day seminar-workshop on March 6–7, 2026 at the University Function Hall.
Organized by the Misamis University Research Center in partnership with the Human Resource Department and the Linkage and Networking Office, the activity brought together college deans, research coordinators, faculty researchers, and staff—creating a dynamic space for collaboration, learning, and academic growth.
The workshop focused on two key areas: publishing in Scopus-indexed journals and developing fundable research proposals. These sessions aimed to enhance participants’ ability to produce high-quality research outputs and design proposals with strong potential for funding support.
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the initiative advanced SDG 4 (Quality Education) by strengthening research competencies, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by promoting innovation-driven outputs, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaboration with partner institutions and experts. It also supported SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action) by encouraging research that addresses real-world community and environmental challenges.
Participants were guided by distinguished resource speakers who shared both expertise and practical insights: Asst. Prof. Nikki Heherson A. Dagamac, Dr. rer. nat., Department Chair, Biology Department, University of Santo Tomas (UST); Mr. Almyt A. Poblete from the Research Center for the Natural and Applied Sciences, UST and Mr. Jean-Matthew Bate of the Department of Biological Sciences, Manila Central University. Through lectures, hands-on workshops, and open forums, participants worked on their own manuscripts and proposals while receiving constructive feedback.
The program opened with a message from Dr. Cynthia S. Superable, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who emphasized the vital role of research in shaping the University’s academic direction and contributing to sustainable development. The speakers were formally introduced by Mr. Gerald Aguilar, Research Coordinator of the College of Agriculture and Forestry.
Throughout the two-day event, participants actively engaged in discussions, shared ideas, and presented their outputs—demonstrating a growing culture of collaboration and research excellence within the University.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Russel P. Galindo, Director for Research, encouraged participants to continue pursuing meaningful, innovative, and impactful research aligned with global development goals. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to the resource speakers in recognition of their valuable contributions.
More than just a training, the workshop reflects Misamis University’s continued commitment to empowering its academic community—driving research that creates real impact in communities and contributes to sustainable development.
