Excellence Built One Day at a Time
"My journey was never about chasing recognition. Rather, it was about becoming the best version of myself."
Those words perfectly capture the philosophy that guided Paul Andre V. Aggabao, RN, long before he earned a place among the Top 4 passers of the November 2025 Philippine Nurses Licensure Examination, achieving an outstanding rating of 93.20%. Behind the remarkable board performance were countless sleepless nights, disciplined study, unwavering faith, and an unrelenting commitment to personal growth. Every challenge became a reminder that success is earned through perseverance, consistency, and resilience. By the time his name appeared among the country's highest-performing examinees, the achievement represented far more than academic excellence—it reflected years spent becoming the best version of himself.
For Paul, nursing was never simply a career choice. It was a calling rooted in a desire to make a meaningful difference in people's lives. Inspired by the compassion and dedication of healthcare professionals, he pursued a profession that extends beyond treating illnesses. Throughout his nursing journey, he came to understand that caring for others means offering comfort in moments of uncertainty, giving hope when it is needed most, and serving every patient with empathy and compassion. Every classroom discussion, clinical experience, and patient encounter strengthened not only his clinical competence but also his commitment to providing quality care and pursuing a life of service.
That same commitment defined his preparation for the board examination. Reviewing became more than a routine—it became a way of life. Every spare moment became an opportunity to learn. Whether walking between destinations, eating a meal, or attending review sessions, Paul made every minute count. He answered thousands of practice questions, studied from multiple references, and revisited concepts repeatedly until they became second nature. There were days when exhaustion took its toll, yet he refused to stop. "There were days when I studied until my head ached," Paul shared. "But I refused to stop because I knew mastery demanded relentless effort." Every page he read, every question he answered, and every sacrifice he made brought him one step closer to the goal he had worked so hard to achieve. Rather than relying on memorization alone, he challenged himself to understand every concept thoroughly, believing that true competence is built on understanding rather than simply recalling information.
Behind that relentless discipline was a mindset grounded in perseverance and unwavering faith. Throughout his journey, Paul has always believed that success is never built overnight. As the saying goes, "Rome wasn't built in a day." Every sleepless night, every sacrifice, and every small act of discipline became another step toward a greater purpose. Guided by the Latin phrase Ad maiora semper—"always toward greater things"—he embraced every challenge as an opportunity to grow. The motto became a constant reminder to keep striving for improvement, never become complacent, and pursue excellence with humility. Paul believes that consistency will always outlast fleeting motivation, that discipline is the bridge between dreams and reality, and that every setback carries a lesson worth learning. Above all, he entrusted every step of his journey to God, believing that every challenge was preparing him for the person he was meant to become.
Paul credits Misamis University for playing a vital role in his success. Reflecting on his journey, he shared, "Misamis University played a vital role in my success by providing me with a strong academic foundation, supportive mentors, and meaningful clinical experiences that prepared me for real-world nursing practice." More than equipping him with the knowledge and skills needed for the profession, the University helped shape the values that continue to guide him as a healthcare professional. "Beyond developing my clinical competence, the University shaped my character by instilling the values of Innovation, Compassion, Adaptability, Responsibility, and Excellence," Paul reflected. Those values continue to influence the way he serves others—encouraging him to embrace lifelong learning, show compassion in every patient encounter, adapt confidently to challenges, take responsibility for every decision, and pursue excellence in everything he does.
Reflecting on what lies ahead, Paul shared, "This milestone is not the end of my story but the beginning of a greater responsibility: to lead with integrity, pursue excellence with humility, serve with compassion, and honor every opportunity entrusted to me as I continue moving forward in my journey."
His story reminds every aspiring healthcare professional that greatness is never achieved overnight. Like Rome, it is built one day at a time through quiet acts of discipline, unwavering perseverance, steadfast faith, and the courage to always strive for greater things.
