Misamis University Holds Virtual Lecture on Psychology in Collaboration with Universitas Persada Indonesia YAI
Misamis University, in collaboration with Universitas Persada Indonesia YAI (UPI YAI), held a Virtual Lecture on Psychology themed “Psychology in the Developing Countries’ Perspectives” on March 21, 2024 at the Function Hall.
The collaborative lecture provided a platform to explore psychological perspectives between the Philippines and Indonesia, aiming to broaden the avenues of learning in the practice of psychology. It also reinforced Misamis University’s commitment to delivering meaningful and quality education by exposing students to a global learning environment. Furthermore, the lecture served to introduce Indonesian students to Filipino culture, norms, and worldviews, while orienting MU students to Indonesian culture.
During the virtual lecture, Dr. Phil. Idhamsyah Eka Putra of UPI YAI delivered a lecture on Indonesian Psychology. Mrs. Eden Neri presented “Sikolohiyang Filipino: Filipino Concepts and Approaches to Psychology Disciplines in the Philippine Academe.”
The objectives of Mrs. Neri’s lecture were to orient Indonesian students on Filipino concepts and approaches in psychology. Specifically, her presentation discussed Filipino norms, beliefs, and values; defined Sikolohiyang Filipino (Filipino Psychology) and Pantayong Pananaw (Filipino Perspectives); introduced the proponents of Sikolohiyang Filipino; explained how Sikolohiyang Filipino is integrated into the Psychology program; highlighted the contributions of Sikolohiyang Filipino to the academe; discussed current issues in the teaching of Sikolohiyang Filipino; and explored the potential for expanding the delivery of the Psychology program through Sikolohiyang Filipino.
The lecture was also attended by Prof. Sri Astuti Indriyati, Rector of UPI YAI, together with Dr. Sri Kurniawati, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs; Zainun Mu’tadin, Vice Rector for Collaboration; Dr. Choirul Anwar, Head of the International Office; and Ms. Dewi Syukriah, Assistant Vice Rector for Collaboration.
At Misamis University, 87 student participants, including Psychology majors and Education students, attended the lecture. The activity successfully broadened participants’ perspectives on the discipline of psychology and on culture between the Philippines and Indonesia and how it shapes people’s understanding and practice of psychology.
