The Philippines declared its independence from Spanish rule on June 12, 1898, under the leadership of General Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit, Cavite. This historic event featured the first official raising of the national flag and playing of the anthem. In 1962, June 12 was officially recognized as the country’s Independence Day to commemorate its true liberation
