Tubod, Lanao Del Norte - Misamis University alumnus and author Marc Will Villacora has achieved national recognition in the 2024 National Gawad Teodora Alonso, an esteemed award that celebrates Philippine literary excellence. His storybook, Ang Kakaibang Ilaw ni Silaw, was selected among hundreds of entries submitted from across the country, standing out as one of the ReadExPicks, with only 55 works chosen for this recognition.
Ang Kakaibang Ilaw ni Silaw is a unique tale that explores themes of curiosity, resilience, and the power of inner light, which resonate deeply with readers. Through engaging storytelling and a captivating narrative, Villacora’s book inspires young readers to embrace their individuality and shine in their own way. The story’s success has shown the potential of children’s literature to both entertain and impart meaningful life lessons, reinforcing the importance of nurturing creativity and empathy in young minds.
After graduating in March 2014 with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education as Magna Cum Laude from Misamis University, he continued his academic pursuits by completing a Master’s in Education in December 2020, also at Misamis University. This academic dedication, paired with his passion for writing, has allowed him to contribute meaningfully to children's literature and education, where his stories are now making an impact on the national stage.
